Environmental, Health and Safety Officer Jobs
The Environmental, Health and Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring that the campus is in compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations relating to health and safety. This position will monitor the campus in order to provide a safe environment for faculty, staff, students and visitors to the Colorado State University – Pueblo campus. This person will serve as a resource to other departments on campus and various federal and state agencies on the environmental, health and safety of the University.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor the campus to ensure that the university is in compliance with ADA, NFPA and other relevant building codes. This includes accessibility, appropriate parking, and emergency evacuation procedures. Makes recommendations to provide health and safe working environment for students, staff and visitors to campus.
- Oversee the Fire and Life Safety programs on campus. This would include calculating building occupancies, conducting necessary fire drills, and determining means of egress. Additionally, identifying hazards, recommending improvements, developing emergency evacuation procedures, and catastrophic response procedures.
- Develop safety training program for the campus including necessary OSHA training requirements and other safety programs.
- Track and dispose of hazardous waste on campus. This also includes the proper disposal techniques, tracking, and reporting in accordance with appropriate federal, state and local laws.
- Provide necessary written reports relating to Environmental, Health and Safety.
- Communicate with the off-campus community and create a strong relationship with the City Health and Safety Departments.
Required Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, physics, biology, environmental health and safety or engineering or closely related field from an accredited four year college.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in chemistry, physics, biology, environmental health and safety or engineering or closely related field from an accredited four year college.
- Certified Safety Professional.
- Working knowledge of Building and Life Safety Codes, experience working with hazardous materials, experience developing training programs, knowledge maintaining MSDS sheets, experience effectively using computer programs, demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
- Experience with asbestos, radiation or lead.
Salary: $50,000 – $54,000 plus benefits
